MALONEY, SISTER ALMA VIRGINIA

A Mass of Christian burial was offered Aug. 11 in Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station, N.J., for Sr. Alma Virginia Maloney, 78, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth. She died Aug. 7 at Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station, N.J. Sr. Alma was born in Dorchester, Mass., the daughter of James and Kathleen (Connolly) Maloney. She entered the Sisters of Charity on October 2, 1949 and was a member for 59 years. Sr. Alma received her B.S. degree in Education from the College of Saint Elizabeth. Sr. Alma was an educator in N.J. She served at St. Anne, Jersey City from 1951-1959. She ministered at the Hospital of St. Raphael, New Haven, Conn., from 1959-1962. She then served at Our Lady Help of Christians School, East Orange from 1962-1964; Sacred Heart, Jersey City from 1964-1965; St. George School, Paterson from 1965-1966 and 19711976; St. Joseph Elementary School, Paterson from 1966-1971; and the Academy of the Sacred Heart, Hoboken from 1976-1995. Sr. Alma was a resident at Catherine Mary McHale Center, Newton, Mass. from 1995-2003 before moving to Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station in 2003 where she resided until her death.
