In the aftermath of last weekend’s fatal collision over the Hudson River, the Weehawken town council at its Aug. 19 meeting will propose to pass a resolution urging federal officials to look into recommendations by the National Transportation Board concerning regulating air traffic over the river.
Mayor Richard Turner says residents are voicing concerns about the crash.
“The crash shows that safety is becoming a bigger concern,” said Turner. “The National Transportation Safety Board has been issuing recommendations on low flying aircraft and what the FAA should be regulating, and they have not been implemented.”
Turner is concerned with the increased volume of aircraft in the area and the lax regulations toward planes and helicopters flying below 11,000 feet in altitude. – Melissa Rappaport
