Dear Editor:
I am writing to invite local residents to celebrate National Night Out in Union City, which will be hosted on Tuesday, August 4, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM on New York Avenue, between 22nd and 29th Streets. In past years, National Night Out festivities have been tremendously enjoyable for families.
This year, residents can look forward to rides, games, food, music and entertainment. Of course, educational tools will be available, which are aimed at deterring crime and violence in our community.
National Night Out is important to our neighborhoods as residents are encouraged to gather in the name of safer streets, reduced violence and constructive behavior that is centered on neighborly interaction and cooperation.
Furthermore, as we continue to read about senseless acts of violence in the media, it is my contention that National Night Out arrives at a critical juncture, as the current climate calls for both introspection and healing in communities that have suffered as a result of recent violence.
Many citizens have subscribed to the idea of National Night Out, as it is estimated that over 37 million people participated in last year’s events throughout the nation. Clearly, we are taking a stand against crime and behavior that adversely impacts our neighborhoods.
In closing, I encourage residents to enjoy National Night Out in Union City.
Sincerely,
Brian P. Stack
Mayor
