SWEENEY, MARY JANE E

A funeral mass was offered on July 25 at St. Martha’s Church, Point Pleasant, for Mary Jane E. Sweeney. She passed away July 22 at her home in Brick. Mary Jane retired in 1991 from the Jersey City Board of Education as a teacher and administrator for 40 years. She was born and raised in Jersey City, and attended Academy of St. Aloysius, N.J. State University, and Seton Hall University. She was a member of the NJEA; retired H.C.E.A.; Women’s Administrators and Supervisors Assn.; and she served as past President of Catholic Teacher Sodality of Northern N.J.; past President of St. Martha’s Rosary Society in Point Pleasant; Past Regent of Catholic Daughters of America; and past President of the Woman’s Club of Point Pleasant. Mary Jane was the daughter of the late Maude (nee Houlihan) and James P. Sweeney. She is survived by her cousins, Patricia and Phil Glackin, Frank and Mary Ann McInerney and their respective families, as well as the children of the late Alan and Diedre Squire.
