Cammarano’s got to go – now

Dear Editor:
Peter Cammarano’s insistence on clinging to office is wrong-headed, and his invocation of the presumption of innocence misses the point. That standard rightly applies to his criminal defense, not the retention of his office. The corollary to the presumption is that ultimately, proof beyond a reasonable doubt is the standard we apply before we take away the most precious value in our society – freedom. That is not, and should not be, the standard for office holding. In that regard, Cammarano’s recorded statements, alone, disqualify him from office. Putting aside the incontrovertible corruption revealed in the transcripts included in the Complaint, the simple division of constituents into backers, those who can get in line and the rest of us, who he proposes to “ground into powder,” reveals unfitness for office. As a practical matter, his protestations regarding his ability to fulfill his office pending resolution ring as hollow as his pledge of zero-tolerance for corruption. Cammarano’s got to go, and now.

Particulately yours,

David G. White
