Dear Editor:
As a resident, taxpayer and member of the voting public of the City of Hoboken, I hereby demand that Peter Cammarano tender his resignation immediately and step down from his elected position as the Mayor of the City of Hoboken. I firmly believe that he has violated the public’s trust through his alleged actions which can be neither repaired nor overcome, no matter the outcome of the pending action against him. The allegations of corruption permanently impair his ability to lead our City going forward. I trust that he understands that this fact cannot be argued and I truly doubt that he would be able to find many residents who would disagree with me at this juncture. Additionally, as a member of the bars of the States of New Jersey and New York (of which I am also a member), and as a former practitioner of election law, he, of all people, should have, at very least, had the wherewithal to avoid any appearances of impropriety. Obviously, he did not. His actions fly in the face and violate several of the Rules of Ethical Conduct to which he is sworn to uphold and abide by as a licensed attorney (specifically, NJ Rules of Professional Conduct (RPC) §§ 8.4(b), (c) and (e) and NYRPC §§ (b), (c), (e) and (h)). Not only has he dishonored the office of the Mayor, but he has shamed and embarrassed his profession as well. Again, the sole purpose of this letter is to demand that he set his ego, agenda and political motives aside and do what is right for our City and immediately resign his elected position as Mayor of the City of Hoboken. This is the only viable option to protect Hoboken from further embarrassment and ridicule.
