In honor of Police Officer Marc DiNardo

To the Editor:
It takes a very special person to become a police officer. One who never hesitates to tackle the most difficult problems. Most people do not understand what they do. They make a commitment to protect and serve. They work hard to provide the safety people deserve.
There are no normal shifts, or a nine-to-five work schedule. They work 24/7 to keep us alive. Holidays and weekends don’t mean a thing. They work night and day. Their loved ones pray every day that they will return back home. They carry guns and wear vests to help them get through the day.
You couldn’t imagine some of the things they must do. They see accidents, blood, and small children crying. They also see death, and not just old people dying. They see abusive spouses and parents who don’t care. Drug dealers and drunks are a regular sight. They go to the bars for fight after fight. They respond to calls day after day and also shootings.
So please remember, a police officer is the one who is always by our side. One who knows right from wrong. One who acts with pride. A hero touches every one of us, whether it be word or deed. Always tending to those who find themselves in need. When a hero leaves this Earth, yes it’s sad, but true. All too many times, the hero is dressed in blue. Always keep the DiNardo family in prayer.
