Dear Editor:
I am wondering how the mysterious “Michelle” comes to have so much insight into Rockefeller Group’s development plan for the northwest end of town. I have been firmly of the understanding that the firm has been keeping its plans under wraps. I would love for this “Michelle” to share more details of the developer’s proposal, but alas, her lack of a last name makes it difficult to ask her follow-up questions. Perhaps I should direct my questions to Rockefeller Group directly, since they seem bent on selectively disseminating their information, albeit in a calculatedly political manner.
Until Rockefeller Group proves as generous with the rest of us as it has been with “Michelle” with regard to its development-plan details, allow me to set the record straight on some misstatements about Beth Mason’s plan.
My impression of Councilwoman Mason’s plan is that it is a proposal specifically designed to meet the needs of Hoboken residents and plan for a sustainable future with a high quality of life. It is a plan put forth by Hoboken residents, with continuing input for Hoboken residents, geared to suit Hoboken residents – not line the pockets of a select few! It is also a plan that will create a large number and wide variety of jobs, provide an array of entertainment and recreational venues for residents, and maintain and enhance our city’s unique character.
Mason has been meeting with residential groups all around the city and, from what I can tell, has expressed an eagerness to meet with anyone and everyone who has an interest in her plan. I have been to one of these meetings, and I can tell you that she is extremely receptive to feedback and input and addresses questions expertly and accessibly. She is truly promoting an inclusive plan that stands to represent the demands and needs of Hoboken residents.
I urge people to learn more about Councilwoman Mason’s proposal and support a plan that is designed to serve the people of Hoboken, as opposed to private interests, whose propagandists are spreading misinformation to once again steer Hoboken development in the wrong direction.
Sincerely,
Jeff Spenkman
