A day after Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano, in office just three weeks, vowed to stay in office and fight an FBI extortion charge, more than 150 people crowded around his Bloomfield Street residence on one of the nicest beach days of the year to urge him to resign. Referring to his comment (according to an FBI document) that he said people who were against him in the election would be “ground into powder,” many people held signs with statements like “Take a powder.”
Resident Tom Kluepfel even made a shirt saying “GRIND THIS.”
Several major news networks, as well as 1010 Wins, covered the protesters.
Popular crossing guard Margaret O’Brien came to the rally to say people should remember he’s innocent until proven guilty. Three angry critics shouted at her that she was blindly following Peter, and criticized the news media for interviewing her when she was the only pro-Cammarano person there. VIDEO FORTHCOMING.
