US ATTORNEY’S OFFICE ON THE PROBE: SORRY, FOLKS

The U.S. Attorney’s office in Newark has just released a press release about today’s political sting operation in New Jersey. They are releasing limited information until a press conference at 2 today. Here is what they have to say:

“Sorry, everyone, we realize this is important to you, but we cannot take your calls at this time. The information from the earlier advisory, appearing again below, is all that will be available for the time being.
“NEWARK, N.J. – Approximately 30 arrests have occurred this morning in a two-track federal investigation of public corruption and a high-volume, international money laundering conspiracy. Among those arrested in the public corruption portion of the investigation are the Mayor of Hoboken, Peter Cammarano III, the Mayor of Secaucus, Dennis Elwell, N.J.
Assemblyman Daniel Van Pelt, the Deputy Mayor of Jersey City, Leona Beldini, and many others.
“Arrests that are part of the money-laundering portion of the investigation include several rabbis in New York and New Jersey.
“A press conference is scheduled for approximately noon today at the U.S.
Attorney’s Office in Newark. Court appearances will begin at about 2 p.m. today. Anticipate subsequent advisories confirming the time of the news conference. A very detailed press release will be available as soon as practical. And, as soon as we can accommodate you, criminal complaints will also be available via email and at the U.S. Attorney’s Office on the 7th Floor.”
