Sources are saying that the New Jersey political arrests today have their roots from two years ago when two prominent New Jersey rabbis were arrested on undetermined charges. The rabbis were given the option of acting as witnesses and turning state’s evidence.
Sources further say that the recent political implications began when the rabbis attended a political fundraiser in Newark this year and may have offered campaign donations in connection with the fundraiser – donations that were not always reported to the state.
The U.S. Attorney’s office is planning to have a press conference at noon to discuss the charges. So far, the mayors of Hoboken and Secaucus have been arrested, as well as an assemblyman. Sources say that a former state politico who ran for Jersey City mayor recently has also been charged, although we have not yet received confirmation.
