VIOLA, MICHAEL F

A funeral mass was offered July 13 at St. Joseph of the Palisades Church for Michael F. Viola. He passed away July 7 at Palisades Medical Center. Born in Guttenberg, he lived in Brooklyn and Long Island and was a resident of West New York for 54 years; he also resided briefly at The Harborage. Mr. Viola retired in 1987 after 40 years as a manager at Prentice-Hall Publishing, which is now Pearson Education, a division of VIACOM. A World War II Army veteran Staff Sergeant (100th Division), he served in Northern France and Germany (The Rhineland). He received many medals that included two Purple Hearts and the Distinguished Service Medal from the State of New Jersey in 2002. He was an usher and parishioner of St. Joseph of the Palisades. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Petra (Pat) A. Viola; his sisters, Mary, Nancy, Rose, Amelia and Rita, and his brothers, Joseph and Louis. He is survived by son, Michael Vincent and his wife, Kez, of Australia; a daughter, Deborah Mary; a son, David, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Services arranged by the Vainieri Funeral Home, North Bergen.
