LYNCH, JOSEPH M

A funeral mass was offered July 13 at Immaculate Conception Church, Secaucus, for Joseph M. Lynch, 86, who passed away July 9. Mr. Lynch was a well known Hudson County engineer, planner and surveyor who founded Mayo Lynch & Associates in 1953. His career includes service as engineer for the JCMUA, the city of Weehawken, the NBBOE and countless major municipal projects including housing, parks, sewerage treatment plants, industrial facilities, schools, and planning projects in New Jersey and New York. Joseph was instrumental in initiating the Federal Model Cities Grant for Hoboken, and shared ownership of patents for sewage treatment processes and equipment. An organizer and Chairman for the Plaza National Bank (now PNC), he received many awards for banking and engineering accomplishments, recently the 2008 Tau Beta Pi Eminent Engineer Award for lifetime excellence. He was a member of the editorial advisory board of the Encyclopedia of Environmental Science and Engineering, and, as a Stevens Institute of Technology Alumni, belonged to the Stevens Metropolitan Club and Old Guard. Joseph was a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving on the Duluth in the Philippines and received medals for his service, most recently the Hudson County Distinguished Service medal in 2008. He was a member of the VFW and Knights of Columbus. Joseph married his high school sweetheart Anna four days prior to enlistment and they recently celebrated their 66th anniversary. He was the husband of Anna Marie (nee Lewandoski) Lynch; the father of Joan Lynch, Laurie and Seamus Cunningham, Peter and Cheryl Lynch, Joseph and Jane Lynch, Anna Lynch, MD, Grace Lynch and John Curry; the grandfather of Seamus Cunningham, Anna Cocuzzo, Tara Kreder, Chris Cunningham, Julie O’Donnell, Jamie, Jill and Patrick, Joseph and Sean Lynch, Josephine and the late John Curry; the great grandfather of Ryan, Brianna, Colin, Kevin, Cameron, Corinne, Emma, Sarah, Jack, and the brother of Robert and the late James and John Lynch.
