Hoboken asst. city clerk dies

Asst. City Clerk John DePalma passed away on Sunday, June 12, according to the city.
DePalma had left his job at City Hall last March to deal with cancer-related issues.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, July 15 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Church, 3rd Jefferson St.
Funeral services for DePalma will be held the same day at Failla Funeral Home, 533 Willow Ave.; viewing is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
DePalma served aside City Clerk Jim Farina for years, and appeared alongside Farina at the City Council dais during meetings.
Mayor Peter Cammarano said today, “He was very softspoken, very gentle, and just an all-around great guy.”
“When he would open up to you, you would get insight into how much he cared about the city. He loved city history, especially Church Square Park,” Cammarano added. “He helped establish the concert series in that park. Just the nicest guy.”
