The city is honoring Annette Illing, a longtime community activist who passed away last year, with the dedication of a small memorial garden on Thursday.
The garden is in Pier A Park, next to the Sept. 11 Memorial and north of the Pier A fountain. The dedication is at 6:30 p.m. and open to the public.
Organizers ask that people bring their memories of Illing, a waterfront, tenants’ rights, and open space advocate. Light refreshments will be provided.
The memorial includes an ornamental blossoming cherry tree, a plaque, and a stone bench, all built on a corner of Pier A Park. The memorial garden was funded solely through private donations.
