At 3 p.m. Wednesday, approximately 50 West New York police officers and their family members united for a rally at Bergenline Avenue and 60th Street and walked along Bergenline to 49th street. Their intent was to protest proposed layoffs that Mayor Sal Vega needs to keep taxes down in next year’s budget. The police had shirts that read “Support your police, local 361.” Talks between the township of West New York and the local police union continue. Police say they are frustrated with the way the conversations with the township have been going.
