Funeral services were held June 8 for Clara Annette Megargel, 81, known to most as “Nettie.” She passed away June 3 while resting peacefully at home in Jersey City, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Glascock County, Gibson, Georgia to the late Clarence Walker and Beatrice (Kitchen) Walker, one of thirteen siblings (eight sisters and five brothers). She was educated in the Glascock County Public School System. She joined Piney Grove Baptist Church at a very early age and remained an active faithful member until moving to New Jersey. While living in Jersey City, Clara attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Jersey City. Clara was married to the late James Thomas Megargel. This union was blessed with nine children. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Preceding her in death were her husband, James Thomas Megargel; her son, James “Jimmy” Walker; her sisters Goldie, Bertlee, Lurlia Walker-Mitts Middlebrook, Marie (Walker) Kenny, Georgianna (Walker) Jordan, Betty (Walker) Wilson; her brothers Dewitt, Billy, Bonnie, Gideon “G.K.” and Henry Walker. She is survived by her sister, Evelyn (Walker) Turner, Augusta, Ga.; her sister-in-law, Claudie Mae Cantlow of Atlanta, Ga.; her brother-in-law, Jessie Wilson (Betty Wilson) of Homestead, Fla.; her children, Steven Megargel and his wife Glynis, Janet Walker, JCPD Lt. Christine Petersen and her husband Robert, Jessie Lewis and her husband Clark, Deborah, Rebecca, Annette and Patricia Megargel; twelve grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loving relatives and friends.
