Although some parents raised the alarm when five students at John M. Bailey School in Bayonne showed flu-like symptoms, Bayonne Schools Superintendent Dr. Patricia McGeehan said there were no confirmed cases of Swine Flu at the school
“Five students were sent home yesterday (June 3) from school with flu-like symptoms,” she said. “One of the five students has returned to school today.”
McGeehan, however, said advisory information was sent to the parents of students at that school, and other precautionary steps were taken, including notifying the local board of health, the Office of Mayor, messages by phone and letter to all home. Three of the classrooms of the children were scrubbed and disinfected.
“The situation is being continually monitored by our health department,” McGeehan said. “The health and safety of our students is always our top priority. We will continue to keep parents informed with updated facts and information.”
