A remembrance will be held at a date to be announced for Shirley J. Conolley, 62. She died May 12 after a long illness. A native of West Virginia, she was one of its first volunteers in VISTA, the domestic equivalent of the Peace Corps, working to improve health and living conditions among the poor of Appalachia. She was a graduate of Marshall University, and later resided in Orlando, Fla., and in Manhattan. She moved to Jersey City twenty years ago, and was one of the first to participate in the historic renovation and reclamation of the York Street/Van Vorst Park community. A longtime employee of Spring Design Partners in Manhattan, she also founded a Jersey shore rental property business, which she ran with her longtime partner, Patricia Armstrong. She is survived by her brothers, Earl Beck and Patrick Bryan, and sisters, Beth Rascoll and Leah Strock.
