An arrest was made on Monday in the death of Jersey City resident Darrell Simmons..
Simmons was found dead by police at his apartment on Sherman Avenue on Sunday morning at around 3 a.m. Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said an autopsy done and he was found to have been strangled.
DeFazio said Leonardo Novoa, 35, of Central Avenue, was already in police custody when a warrant for his arrest on the murder charge was signed on Monday in connection with Simmons’ death. DeFazio said Novoa answered the door when police came to Simmons’ apartment after responding to calls about loud arguing coming from the apartment.
Novoa is being held at the Hudson County Jail in Kearny on $750,000 bail.
Simmons’ death is the 11th homicide in Jersey City so far this year.
