Dear Editor:
Several years ago, I had the unexpected good fortune of meeting Dawn Zimmer, as our young sons had spontaneously befriended one another, in Church Square Park. Through the ups and downs of life, we have forged what is, to me, the most valuable friendship I hold, after 12 years in Hoboken. Dawn is a highly intelligent, caring, and honest woman, clear in her convictions, and consistently true to them. She has both great heart and great conscience. I would entrust my cherished child, my money and my home to Dawn, because her character is solid, her judgment, undeniably sound. I am proud to speak for Dawn, who is not only an admirable person, but, also, an inspirational mayoral candidate.
For starters, Dawn has exclusively espoused clear-cut reform candidates for city council (Carol Marsh, Rhavi Bhalla, David Mello), and endorsed the clear-cut reform candidates (of “Kids First”), in the recent Board of Education election. Dawn, with two children in the Hoboken schools, is personally vested in the advancement of education in Hoboken.
Dawn Zimmer, a true reformer, is dedicated to reinstating fairness and ethics in the workings of Hoboken. In this declining economy, with so many in financial struggle – the unemployed, the retired, the single parents with children, Dawn voted to protect the right of those truly entitled to affordable housing and to protect the taxpayers, by voting AGAINST allowing those who earn well above a modest income, to remain in the affordable housing of Church Towers, for another 10 years.
Dawn Zimmer demonstrated the honesty and clarity a reformer, not to mention courage, to publicly state that, since a whopping 80 per cent of Hoboken’s expenses are for city personnel salaries, she would reduce the tax burden on Hoboken residents by RESPONSIBLY reducing a percentage of its city personnel/salaries.
Dawn Zimmer has been a critical force in the fight to create more park space in Hoboken, both in the Southwest corner, and, now, in the Northwest area of town. She has been fervent in her commitment to require developers to offer Hoboken residents the added green space they need. She earnestly understands the value of green space, and does not want to see Hoboken’s “last frontiers” exploited as mere parcels of land, upon which to plop more concrete for profit.
Dawn Zimmer, in the spirit of a reformer, has led an open, respectful campaign, on every level.
I will enthusiastically vote for Dawn Zimmer, who many are referring to as “The Dawn of a New Era.” Please join me.
Sincerely,
Lisa Kashish
