Dear Editor:
I am writing as one of the many “moms” who worked hard for the Kids First team in this past Board of Ed election. Last week, the Kids First team publicly thanked everyone for all their time and support. As a member of this grassroots campaign, I agree, it was incredible to see the support come from every corner and neighborhood in Hoboken.
I wanted to express my own personal gratitude to Dawn Zimmer and her entire team: Ravi Bhalla, Carol Marsh and David Mello and their volunteers, for their support, commitment and HELP when it was needed most. Dawn provided the extra hands, the space, and all the help asked for unconditionally, because she believed in our candidates, believed that the moms of Hoboken deserved a chance to change the status quo on our school board. I believe Dawn’s goals for easing the burden on taxpayers by trimming Hoboken’s school budget and improving our schools’ academic performance to serve our children (and good schools raise property values) are in alignment with those of the Kids First slate. I believe that is why Dawn was unafraid to give Kids First her endorsement, unlike other candidates who either stayed on the sidelines because they were undecided or for the sake of political expediency. Not Dawn. She and her team were there, and not just at our election night party. They were out in the streets canvassing voters, making phone calls, handing out materials, doing all the things that help win elections. Thank you, Team Zimmer, from a Kids First volunteer.
