Palisades Medical Center celebrated National Volunteer Week by holding a special luncheon at Frank’s Waterside in North Bergen on April 24, to recognize the tireless efforts of the dedicated volunteers.
Palisades Medical Center is a regional hospital located in North Bergen, serving a population of 400,000 in Hudson and Southern Bergen Counties. The hospital is a member of the New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System, and operates the 202-bed Medical Center as well as The Harborage, a 245-bed rehabilitation center and nursing home.
Volunteers provided more than 23,000 hours of service at Palisades during the past year. That equates to more than $520,000 in service value, according to the state of New Jersey. Volunteers also helped raise thousands of dollars for the Medical Center and the Harborage nursing home and rehabilitation center through their work at the Gift Shop, the Thrift Shop, and Auxiliary fundraising activities.
During the Volunteer Luncheon, Bruce J. Markowitz, President & CEO of Palisades Medical Center, presented commemorative pins to local volunteers to recognize their cumulative hours of service to the Medical Center.
They included: 10,500 hours, Angela Contreras of Guttenberg; 4,000 hours, Eronidez Cristofol of West New York; 1,000 hours, Mila Rodriguez of West New York; 500 hours, Antoinette DePalma and Marie Theresa Giusto of Weehawken; 250 hours, Edelma Acosta of West New York and Zunilda Khoury of North Bergen; 100 hours, Deborah Chavez of Guttenberg, Doreen Palmisano of Union City, Roshi Patel of North Bergen, and Barbara Salerno of North Bergen.
“Our volunteers play a vital role in helping Palisades Medical Center provide world-class care for our community,” said Bruce J. Markowitz, President & CEO of Palisades Medical Center. “They truly exemplify what it means to make a strong commitment to caring for our neighbors each and every day.”
Volunteer activities at Palisades include assisting the nursing staff and patients, working in the Gift Shop and Thrift Shop, performing clerical duties, and organizing special fundraising events. Volunteer positions offer flexible hours including nights and weekends.
