With mayor/council elections being held in Hoboken and Jersey City this coming May 12, time is running out for you to get your letters to the editor in to the Hudson Reporter newspapers. All letters must be under 500 words, include the author’s phone number and address directly on the letter (we won’t print that information in the paper, but we need it for verification purposes), and be sent as an attachment to: editorial@hudsonreporter.com.
Letters received early have the best chance of getting in, as they must be formatted and confirmed by our staff.
Please note that this is the last week for letters making any negative claims at all related to the May 12 election. Only positive letters or endorsement letters will be published next week (May 10.) This allows us to avoid any confusion or allegations that can’t be corrected in the edition that comes out two days before the election. Through trial and error over the last 20 years, we’ve found that this is the most fair way to keep the page accurate.
Thus, all negative letters related to the May 12 election should be in on time for this weekend.
If there is a runoff election, the regular letters policy will resume until the weekend before the June 9 runoff.
We may ask you to provide sources for facts or statistics mentioned in your letter. Since you have used the information to write the letter, you simply need to provide the same documentation to our fact-checkers if requested.
We have printed thousands of passionate, interesting letters from all factions in all towns, expressing all kinds of opinions. We look forward to receiving YOUR letter at editorial@hudsonreporter.com. To read our full letters policy, please click on “Opinion” at the top of our home page and go to “Letters.”
Remember that you can now leave comments at the end of our letters and articles on this website any time. www.hudsonreporter.com. So what are you waiting for?
