According to North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief David Barth, a brush fire that began around 2 p.m. in the area of North Bergen and Union City was still burning an hour later.
He said that firefighters were working to get the blaze under control. The fire was located west of the 2000 block of Tonnelle Avenue, close by the entrances to Route 3 West and the New Jersey Turnpike.
“They haven’t declared it under control,” Barth said around 3 p.m., “but that usually means that it’s not escalating, but it’s not under control yet either.”
