Last week, supporters of warring candidates in Hoboken’s mayoral elections claimed that two supporters of candidate Dawn Zimmer told two supporters of candidate Beth Mason to leave an election celebration for the Kids’ First school board ticket.
Now, Hoboken activist Toni Tomarazzo says that she and a male friend/activist were kept out of a meeting that Beth Mason apparently held a little over a month ago regarding the Church Towers tax abatement issue.
Tomarazzo tells the story on the HobokenJournal website (which, for full disclosure, appears to support Zimmer). She writes, “As I walked into the building I got about half way down the bar and I was stopped by an elderly man and [allegedly] poked in the chest and told to leave the building. I kept my cool and told him that I was there to listen to the Church Towers meeting…”
While not every rumor of a dustup is worth reporting, Hoboken activists on all sides say they want government to be more open than it has been – so these stories that hint at non-transparency or people allegedly bullying others are always going to cause a stir.
