How much can sampling the finest food from the most established restaurants in the area be worth? It’s only $30 if you buy your ticket before the early deadline of 5 p.m. on April 28.
The ninth annual “A Taste of Weehawken,” a fundraising event to benefit the Weehawken Library, gives food enthusiasts the chance to wine and dine on the Weehawken waterfront and rub elbows with some of the most seasoned chefs and restaurateurs. This year’s event takes place this coming Tuesday, April 28, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at 1200 Harbor Blvd. in Lincoln Harbor.
More than 400 guests will partake of the food and live music, helping raise an anticipated $15,000. The wide range of dishes will include fondue, Italian meatballs, Greek salads, and more.
For those who pay a little extra, a special “preview hour” is held one hour early, at 6:30 p.m. It lets guests talk one on one with owners and chefs and get first dibs on the eclectic cuisine.
“The event is a really great way to give back to Weehawken.” – Lorraine Wuillamey

“The event is a really great way to give back to Weehawken,” said Lorraine Wuillamey, owner of Lorraine’s Table in Weehawken, who was born and raised in the township and has been participating in the event for the last five years. GP’s Restaurant, which has been open for 30 years in Guttenberg, will also be celebrating five years at the event.
Dozens of other local restaurants will be involved. See sidebar for details.
This year, participation from the community is vital. “The library has been undergoing a hiring freeze and hasn’t been able to hire any new people,” Mayor Richard Turner said. “With a shorter staff, participation is more critical than ever.”
In past years, the funds raised at the event went to the library for programs that are outside of the normal budget, Turner said.
The library organizes more than 31 programs including book readings, reading classes for children, live music performances, quiet space for students, and much more.
“As of late, the library has been increasing their reference section,” Mayor Turner said, “all from funding from the event.”
In conjunction with Weehawken’s 150th year-long celebration, the library also stores and preserves some of the township’s most prized artifacts available for viewing at the library.
“The library staff spends a lot of time putting this event together,” Turner said. “We really want to thank everyone that participates.”
