UPDATED: Police still investigating fire at UC Jewish school

Union City police were still searching today for two male suspects connected to arson at an all-girls’ Jewish school on New York Avenue Wednesday night, according to Police Chief Charles Everett.
A fire was set to wood and other material piled on top a desk in the atrium underneath the front stairs of Bnos Sanz School, at 3300 New York Ave. However, it was not a wooden cross that was burned, as previously reported.
“There is no specific evidence at the scene, other than the fact that this was an arson, that would indicate it is bias,” said Everett. He added that there was no cross or other religious symbols or bias scrawling at the scene; however, police must consider the possibility of bias because the incident took place at a religious institution.
Classes at the school resumed as scheduled on Thursday. Everett said police will be carefully surveying the area at least through the weekend.
