The three mothers running for Hoboken school board on Tuesday have swept the election. That means incumbent Frank Raia is out, and new blood is in.
Theresa Minutillo, Ruth McAllister, and Maureen Sullivan are the winners. Approximately 5,645 people voted.
The school budget vote was extremely close, and as of Wednesday morning, there was still some confusion. While it was deemed to have passed by the city clerk’s office on election night, as of Wednesday morning, the county said that it FAILED.
The final numbers for the candidates from the county website are:
Theresa Minutillo (incumbent) – 2907
Maureen Sullivan – 2742
Ruth McAllister – 2647
Frank Raia (incumbent) – 2075
Hector Irizarry – 1786
Anthony Oland – 1770
And what of the budget?
According to the county website, the budget went down, 1,834 to 1,724.. The city clerk’s office had these numbers on election night: 1,999 yes, 1,885 no. With the numbers that close, a recount may be in order anyway…we’ll let you know the results.
The Kids First slate was openly endorsed by mayoral candidate Dawn Zimmer, so some may see this victory as a good sign for her mayoral prospects on May 12. But she still faces stiff competition from Beth Mason, Peter Cammarano, and three independents.
Meanwhile, here is the county clerk’s election website for results countywide.
