Want U2 tickets? A ride on a Hoboken fire engine?

The Hoboken Historical Museum, which is holding its auction/fundraiser this Saturday, told us about some of the more unique items they’ll be auctioning. Here’s their release and info:

The hottest ticket this spring is the annual Great Hoboken Auction to benefit the Hoboken Historical Museum, Saturday, April 25. This year, the event moves indoors, into the former Hollywood Video store in the Shipyard complex behind the Starbucks at 12th St. and Shipyard Lane. Doors open at 5:30 pm with a bargain-hunter’s paradise in the Silent Auction, which offers a diverse selection of antiques, collectibles, gift certificates and merchandise to suit every taste. Delicious sandwiches and refreshments will be available for purchase all evening. Admission is $10, free to children age 14 and under. More details are available at www.hobokenauction.com.
The pace quickens at 7:30 pm when auctioneer Eugene Flinn, restaurateur of Amanda’s and Elysian Café fame, opens the Live Auction. New items include:
-A signed, painted rocking chair from folk artist Mose “T” Tolliver, whose work is collected by the Folk Art Museum and other connoisseurs of “outsider art”;
-An original neoclassical brass desk from the Hoboken Bank for Savings building, which was built in 1929 on Washington St., across from City Hall. Includes the lighting fixture.
-Music and sports events ticket packages, including tickets to U2’s 360 tour and a package of Yankees tickets.
The Museum’s auction is truly an event for everyone – it’s affordable, festive and full of unique experiences to bid on. Imagine sailing on the Hudson River on a 32-foot sloop, along with three of your friends, with a close-up view of the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan. Fulfill a childhood dream of becoming a fireman: Bid on a chance to ride in this year’s Memorial Day Parade seated on a Hoboken Fire Truck.
The auction offers you a chance to commission a local artist to paint a portrait of your home or favorite Hoboken scene, or a professional children’s photographer to take a unique, artistic portrait of your kids. Lovers of Italian pastries can bid on a chance to have one of Giorgio’s master bakers come to your home and teach you how to make their treats. And for a truly Hoboken experience, bid on a private tour of one of Hoboken’s best-kept secrets, the Stevens Institute of Technology’s Davidson Laboratory, whose wave tank and talented professors have pioneered racing yacht design for generations.
The Museum welcomes additional donations of antique furniture, collectibles, and, of course, products and services from local businesses. The Great Hoboken Auction is a major fundraising event of the year, and it helps support the Museum’s exhibits, programs and publications. Because the HHM is a nonprofit organization, donations are tax-deductible, call the Museum at 201-656-2240, ext. 6. Volunteers are also needed, no experience necessary.
