This week, City Attorney Steven Kleinman released final numbers that were included in a state-approved layoff plan to save money in Hoboken.
The city has state approval to demote two police captains, three lieutenants, and five sergeants, and to lay off six regular police officers. In the Fire Department, the city can demote four battalion chiefs and six captains.
The department of Health and Human Services is approved for six layoffs, the City Clerk’s office may see one layoff, and non-uniformed Public Safety employees may see eight layoffs.
Kleinman said all layoffs scheduled to take place on May 22, except for police, who will be laid off June 20. He also said the plan is subject to amendment, delay, or cancellation up to the scheduled date of the layoffs.
