Dear Editor:
In the “Between the Lines” column of a recent edition of The Hoboken Reporter (March 29, 2009), Beth Mason’s supporters seem to confirm the existence of an alliance between Mason and those who represent and support the Hoboken political establishment.
While Mason supporters discounted the suggestion that Councilman Michael Russo had a hand in picking Mason’s ticket, they cynically noted that in any case “many of those who vote as reformers weren’t residents of Hoboken during the years when then-Mayor Anthony Russo (Michael’s father) became the focus of their agitation. ‘Russo is just another name,’ one prominent Mason person said.”
The Mason camp and those Hobokenites who want real reform should know that many of us do remember Anthony Russo and others who preceded him. We question how Mason and her supporters can claim the mantle of reform while joining in an alliance with the very machine they purport to challenge.
Sincerely,
Nancy Carnevale
