EGLENTOWICZ, GERALD A. SR

A funeral mass was offered April 8 at Our Lady of Mercy Church for Gerald A. “Ziggy” Eglentowicz, Sr., 60. He died April 2 at home. Born in Jersey City, a lifelong resident, he was the son of the late Blanche (Luszcz) and Frank Eglentowicz. He was a demolition director for the Jersey City Incinerator Authority for 25 years. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was former coach of the Jersey City Recreation Football, and the College Little League. He was Hockey Manager for the Jersey City Boys Club. He was a former Jersey City Committeeman for Ward ‘A’. He was a volunteer first responder at Ground Zero on 9/11. A true Jersey City guy, referring to the Manhattan skyline, he liked to say to all his out of town friends, “Where are you gonna get this view?!” He was the husband of Christine DeBello Eglentowicz; the father of Gerald, Jr. and Nicholas; the grandfather of Chase Michael; the brother of Christine Fogarty, Pat Kreutter and the late Frank Eglentowicz, and the son-in-law of Christine and Nicholas DeBello.
