Private funeral services are planned for Jean E. Cammarano, 88, grandmother of Hoboken Councilman Peter Cammarano. She passed away March 19. A retired public school teacher, she spent most of her life in Paterson. She moved to Hoboken in 2006 and lived with her grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Peter III and Marita Erbeck Cammarano. “My grandmother was a very proud, energetic and loving person,” Councilman Cammarano commented in published reports. “I was as close to her as I was with anyone with my family, and I miss her very much.” Her father was a local businessman and Golden Gloves boxer, whose earnings in the ring carried the family through the Great Depression. She earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in education before becoming a teacher in the Paterson public school system. She married her childhood sweetheart, Peter Cammarano, Sr., after he returned from active duty in World War II, and raised two children. Peter Sr. was a combat veteran in the Pacific theatre of the war who landed at Guadalcanal and Okinawa, a Major in the U.S. Marine Corps, and a retired attorney. He predeceased his wife four years ago. Jean Cammarano is survived by a daughter, Lisa Bradeen; her son Peter Jr.; her granddaughter Andrea; and grandson Peter III. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in her memory be made to the Adopt A Soldier Program. Donations can be made payable to American Legion Post 107, 308 2nd Street, Hoboken, New Jersey 07030. Services arranged by the Failla Memorial Home, Hoboken.
