Before you vote for the BOE, come & meet the candidates

Dear Editor:
Shame on me for being a Hoboken resident for 20 years and only beginning to vote in the Board of Education elections in the past five. Like many other young people I moved here shortly out of college. I initially thought my stay in Hoboken would be temporary. Temporary quickly turned into two decades because I found the city and its people charming, the streets safe and housing an affordable alternative to New York City.
As we all call this city home, we should each do our part to make Hoboken its best. The Hoboken Board of Education election turn out last year was 12 percent. We can and should do better. Don’t be the young passive 20-something that I was.
Vote on Tuesday, April 21. Polls are open from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., and before you cast your choices for three open seats, meet the candidates.
The Hoboken Family Alliance hosts a Candidate Forum on April 4 at Demarest Middle School at 401 Garden St. at 10 a.m. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and learn which candidates you think will serve the community best.
Continue the tremendous support for the democratic process we saw this past November with a vote by the community, of the community, for the community, including most importantly, the student in the community.

Sincerely,
Theresa Howard
