Well, a stroll to the new location of Crumbs at 409 Washington St. in Hoboken at 10 a.m. seemed to indicate that they didn’t open this morning after all. There were still permit signs on the windows, and a News 12 photographer who was also there to cover the opening looked quite forlorn.
The popular dessert chain issued a press release last month saying they would open today and give away 1,000 cupcakes, but they were closed and seem to be still under construction, judging by the three permits on the door (one indicating a recent change of contractor).
This was the last release we got:
“WHAT: 1,000 Free Cupcakes to celebrate Opening Day
WHEN: Saturday, February 28 – Westfield Cupcake Kickoff at 8:00 a.m.
Saturday, March 21 – Hoboken Cupcake Kickoff at 8:00 a.m.”
We’ve asked them when their new opening date is, and we’ll print it in this spot when we find out.
Don’t fear, though, sugar fans. The Candy Shoppe was scheduled to open today (Saturday) at 11 a.m. at 59 Fourth St.! And there are plenty of other wonderful shops on Washington Street to meet your needs. So enjoy!
Meanwhile, here’s a previous article we posted regarding both dessert shops.
