Five file for Jersey City mayor, and 43 for nine council seats

As of Thursday evening, five candidates had filed to run for mayor of Jersey City in the May 12 election.
Incumbent Jerramiah Healy, Assemblyman L. Harvey Smith, former Assemblyman Louis Manzo, and residents Daniel Levin and Phillip Webb all filed by the deadline and were in the process of having their signatures certified.
Healy’s full slate of candidates for the nine council seats also filed by the deadline.
In all, 43 people filed to run for the nine council seats. Thirteen of those filed to run for the three council-at-large seats representing the entire city. In addition, for the six individual ward seats, a total of 30 people have filed.
In order to stay on the ballot, the candidates’ signatures from registered voters in their proposed area of representation must be certified as valid by the city clerk.
