Cammarano calls for debates in Hoboken mayoral race

After he and his three council-at-large candidates filed petitions to run for mayor Thursday, Hoboken mayoral candidate Peter Cammarano called on his opponents to join him in a series of debates in each of Hoboken’s six wards.
He also said in a press release that he also would like to see “a city-wide debate focused on the budget, taxes, and state takeover.”
(Seven debates in as many weeks? How are you going to find enough unbiased people in Hoboken to moderate? Maybe that’s setting the bar a little high. But then again, perhaps we need a high bar!)
The release says, “Peter Cammarano is the only candidate running for Mayor who did his job last summer by voting to pass a city budget, which would have stopped the state takeover and prevented the 47 percent tax increase. Cammarano is also the only candidate who did his job last night, by approving this year’s budget and to decrease taxes for Hoboken’s residents. The other council members running for mayor have continued their pattern of failing to do their job – by either voting against approving a budget or abstaining from even casting a vote.”

(Wednesday night, Zimmer abstained from voting on Hoboken’s budget, as noted in a below item. Mason voted against it.)
“City leaders need to be accountable to every resident of the city, and that is why I am calling on my opponents to join me in debates in every ward,” said Cammarano. “The voters have a right to know where the candidates stand on the issues affecting our community.”
