While May 12 is an important date locally because mayor and council elections are being held in Jersey City and Hoboken, it’s also important because there will be a show premiering that night that will have just as much greed and drama, and much bigger hair.
Yes, Bravo TV just announced that their reality show “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” will debut that night, peering into the lives of five Jersey housewives, including one who is “one of the first female American Express Black card members in New Jersey.” Wow, how’s that for an accomplishment?
Just like the Real Housewives of Orange County and New York City, the purpose of this show (like all reality shows) is to allow viewers to feel superior to these women (as well as Simon on the NYC show) and be glad we’re not as superficial or empty as them…except for the fact that we actually watch it.
Last year, the NJ version of the show held auditions in Hoboken at a local bar, drawing lots of legs and lipstick, but we don’t know yet whether the selected stars are alums of Hudson County. We do know that we’ll probably be tuning in and then not admitting to it.
As if people didn’t make fun of New Jersey enough already…
The network said yesterday that the five women are from Franklin Lakes in Bergen Township…oh, they can’t all be, can they? I’m sure they’ve seen the inside of a Hudson bar or two.
