Letter did the trick

Dear Editor:
Charlie’s Park is a small gated parking lot which is rarely used by the 1st Aid Squad; instead it is monopolized by dog owners and their pets. Children occasionally play there but I can’t recall the last time the town put up the basketball rim and backboard. Dog waste is often seen scattered along most of the sidewalks in this neighborhood whether the ground is frozen or not.
The amount of dog waste has become more abundant since dog owners are permitted to use the park as a playground for their pets.
If residents are not responsible enough to pick up after their pets, then the town must do something about it and stop pretending that the problem doesn’t exist.
The first business day after the letter was published highlighting this problem, Highwood Ave. was thoroughly cleaned, and doggie bags were stocked in the dispenser.
If all it took was a published letter for the town to finally recognize and address the problem, then kudos to the person who wrote it. Please keep our streets and parks clean by cleaning up after your pets.

A Highwood Ave. resident
