Budget meeting this week

Fiscal Monitor Judy Tripodi has called for a special budget meeting this week to introduce budget amendments and expedite the budget process.
The meeting is on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in City Council Chambers, City Hall.
The entire council is expected to attend and members of the public will be allowed to speak on the budget.

Board of Ed candidates announce

Two full slates and three independent candidates filed for a total of three Board of Education seats up for grabs in the April 21 election.
Incumbents Frank Raia and Theresa Minutillo field a full slate each and three other candidates jumped into the mix.
Independent candidate Barbara Claveria, whose husband was recently appointed to the Housing Authority board, filed her petitions on time, and candidates Barbara Martinez and Theresa Burns took advantage of a state-wide filing extension due to the inclement weather last Monday to get their petitions in.
Raia is running with candidates Anthony Oland and Hector Irizarry, called “United for Students.”
Running again under the name “Kids First,” Minutillo is running with Ruth McAllister and Maureen Sullivan, who was a candidate last April.
The “Kids First” campaign is holding a kickoff party at Maxwell’s this Sunday, March 8 from 2 to 5 p.m.

Drama at the Hudson School

S tudents and alumni of The Hudson School will be performing David Lindsay-Abaire’s Tony Awarding-winning drama, Rabbit Hole, on Thursday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m. The show will be presented at The Hudson School’s Performance Space, 601 Park Ave., Hoboken, NJ. All tickets are $10.
The play features Stefano Bassanini of Hoboken; Josette Dwyer, Tara-Jo Lewis and Anschel Schaffer-Cohen of Jersey City; and Ariella Mastroianni of Secaucus. The production is directed by Anne-Marie Marcazzo of Hoboken.
The two-act play deals with the loss of a child and a family’s response to this tragedy and runs for approximately one hour and forty-five minutes.
