Outraged Hoboken residents rallied outside of City Hall on Wednesday to protest a recent 47 percent property tax hike and alleged mismanagement within city government. Organized by the community coalitions Hoboken Revolt and Lower Hoboken Taxes, protesters held up a tar-and-feathered effigy of Hoboken Mayor David Roberts and signs demanding lower taxes. At one point, the crowd chanted, “Recall, recall” threatening to take action against members of the city council if the city’s budget was not reduced. Speaker Brian Wagner offered the suggestion of a Hoboken Tea Party where residents tear up tax bills and cast them into the Hudson River at Pier A. – Sean Allocca
