March is National Colon Cancer Awareness Month

To The Editor:
March is National Colon Cancer Awareness Month. Since colon cancer is the third highest cause of death in America, and the reason for a great many ostomies, we need to pay attention to it and help spread awareness of the value of early screening.
Awareness Month is being kicked off this year with Dress in Blue Day on March 6, 2009. Blue is the color adopted by the colon cancer awareness folks, and appears in their national symbol, the blue star.
Colon cancer survivors in the Bayonne area can meet with others at the upcoming Conversations about Colorectal Cancer: Finding HOPE (Healing. Options. Peer Support. Education). It will be held this Wednesday, March 11, 2009, 2 p.m., in the Cardiology Conference Room at Bayonne Medical Center, 29th Street at Avenue E.
