New light rail sign at Paterson Plank in Hoboken

We got this press release from Hoboken 4th Ward Councilwoman and mayoral candidate Dawn Zimmer, praising a new electric sign at an accident-prone corner near one of the light rail stops. We thought the sign might say, “Vote Zimmer,” but it actually says “Train coming.” Here’s the release:
“Dawn Zimmer today praised New Jersey Transit for the recent installation of a sign that provides a warning for when light rail trains are coming and the scheduled addition of a pedestrian rail at the Paterson Plank Light Rail Crossing. After several accidents, Councilwoman Zimmer called on NJ Transit to improve safety at the crossing and organized a meeting between residents and NJ Transit to discuss safety concerns and to take a walking tour of dangerous areas.
Councilwoman Zimmer said, ‘These improvements are a step forward in making Hoboken a safer place to walk, bike and drive. But there is much more to do.’
Councilwoman Zimmer is working on a number of safety initiatives and has been bringing together the different agencies responsible for safety in Hoboken to help chart a course of action. She has conducted traffic forums and worked with Stevens students to bring together leaders from NJDOT, New Jersey Transit, the Hudson County Planning Division and Hoboken Police Department, among others so that the government officials responsible could coordinate on short and long term action plans to improve pedestrian and vehicular safety. In particular, she is working to resolve issues with the timing of the Marshall Street light.
According to Zimmer, among the results of her efforts with the community includes plans for the installation of more effective lighting on 2nd Street designed to reduce crime, and stanchions installed at the most dangerous intersections in the Fourth Ward, as well as improvements to the camera system at the light rail.”
