The Star-Ledger quotes two sources as saying that this announcement is set for Tuesday at 3 p.m. The former Republican mayor of New York City is supposed to give a public endorsement to corruption-fighter Christie, the former U.S. Attorney, in Christie’s impending gubernatorial campaign against Democrat (and Hoboken resident) Gov. Jon Corzine.
This tip is a bit curious, though, for a few reasons: 1) If they are holding a press conference, why were they keeping it from the press (at least, until the last minute?) and 2) Why Maxwell Place Park? It’s not exactly one of the city’s more historic or well-known parks. If they’re trying to upstage Corzine on his own turf, he actually lives a few blocks away, in the Tea Building.
Despite Christie’s crime-fighting reputation, there is one local issue that may end up being used against him (see our story on that HERE.) Other than that, he’s known for securing convictions of more than 100 officials in our state.
