Acclaimed JC musician proves you never stop learning

Tony Hicks is living proof that learning is a lifelong process, regardless of how much success you have experienced in a particular area.
For Hicks, a member of the famed Gramercy Brass Orchestra and consultant for the Jersey City Board of Education, that area is brass music. As a member of the Gramercy Brass Orchestra, he has played twice with the legendary Dave Brubeck and looks forward to the upcoming release of the orchestra’s new release, Brubeck in Brass, which features Chris Brubeck, son of the jazz legend.
Hicks, a native from Tasmania, Australia, has been in the US for 13 years. He had been a consultant for the JC Bbd of Ed for about seven years and teaches French horn, trumpet, tuba, euphonium and trombone in the JC school system.
At Thomas Edison State College Hicks was able to earn credit through prior learning assessment where he demonstrated his college level knowledge about several subjects that were required in his degree program. He joined nearly 400 adult learners when he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in music from the College on Oct. 11th during the College’s 36th Annual Commencement at The War Memorial in Trenton.
