A tractor trailer traveling southbound on the Bayonne Bridge today in the direction of Staten Island was driven against the rail on the northbound lanes when a heavy gust of wind struck the side of the truck.
Fire Chief Greg Rogers said no other vehicles were involved in the accident, and that the driver climbed out of the overturned cab before emergency workers arrived. The driver suffered only a sprained wrist.
Because of the high winds, officials decided to drag the trailer off the bridge rather than trying to set it right where it was.
