BEFUMO, SAMUEL S. Mass for Samuel S. Befumo, 100, of Weehawken, was held Oct. 2 at St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake. He died Sept. 29 at Cusack Care Center, Jersey City. Born in Newark, he lived in West New York and Spring Lake Heights before moving to Weehawken seven years ago. Befumo was an agent and manager for John Hancock Life Insurance Co. for 31 years. He was a former secretary of the Hudson County Life Insurance Local 164, a former financial secretary of the Hudson County AFL-CIO Council. In 1958, he ran as a Democratic candidate for Congress in the 14th Congressional District. During World War II, he worked as an airplane inspector on stabilizers, ailerons and rudders. Later, he was employed as a security officer at Todd’s Shipyard, Hoboken. He was a member of St. Catharine’s Church. Survivors include a daughter, Aida Gallagher, and husband James, of Weehawken; a brother, Christopher; five grandchildren, Emilie Snyder, and her husband Scott, MaryAnn Berns, and her husband Jeffrey, Michele Scirocco, Amy Cummings, and her husband Alan, and Jed Gallagher; and five great-grandchildren, Kimberly and Christopher Snyder, Daniel and Sarah Berns, and Isabelle Cummings.
