The 82nd annual Hoboken Italian Festival kicked off Thursday night with live music, food, and an 800-pound Madonna statue watching everything.
The festival continues all weekend from noon to 11 p.m. along lower Sinatra Drive.
Sunday brings musical performances from The Shirelles and The Bronx Wanderers, and possibly fireworks that were originally scheduled for Saturday. The fireworks may be moved due to rain.
The celebration is in honor of Madonna Dei Matiri, a patron saint of the Italian city of Molfetta, where the festival originated. The festival website says the procession of the statue has been postponed until Sunday.
A mass will follow at St. Francis Church at 3rd and Jefferson streets. The mass is at 11 a.m. with the procession to follow at 2 p.m.
Admission is free for all.
