Men Are Lost Too…

Dear readers: A recent Current essay entitled “Lost Women” inferred that an abundant amount of single women, who although circulate in group circles, are unable to connect with others and lack focus in their lives.

In short, they are losers.

As a female looking at it from the other side of the spectrum, I think I speak for many women who would agree that for every “lost” soul woman there are at least five “lost men” who meet that description.

These are males who are commonly known as the “bachelor type.” They are the ones you can enjoy in having intellectual discussions and within a short time leave you the impression that they are your friends.

Then one day suddenly when you least expect it they verbally become curt or avoid you altogether, making it abundantly clear their discomfort – platonically or otherwise in being in female company.

Instead they seem to prefer male bonding with their guy friends. Contrary to popular opinion, these male characteristics germinate early in adulthood, which become visible in their late 20s and early 30s. Most astute women pick up these signals and can predict those who will be living the same patterns at ages 50, 60 and beyond.

A perfect example that comes to mind is a congregating place (not a bar) right here in Hoboken. On occasions when I stop by, the same three or four guys greet me with a friendly hello. I chat with one of them. And ultimately, the other(s) superficially include me in their conversation.

Shortly thereafter, however, the invisible “no female trespassing sign” goes up. Then without even recognizing my presence one asks the other (s) to join him for a bite – no doubt to whine why they can’t make a relationship stick or what is the matter with the modern women.

I’ll bet any amount that in 10 years’ time anyone stopping by would see the same guys hanging out with the same gripes. – Sincerely yours, Anonymous
